I can definitely understand the hype when it comes to Sins & Needles. Like I said in my review for On Every Street, I knew nothing about this series. I was just being a follower and it certainly paid off! I never thought I was a crime and suspense kind of reader, but when it's paired with sexy people doing sexy things, I'm a fan! Ellie returns to her hometown after seven years with the intention of going legit, but that plan goes up in flames when she runs into Camden McQueen. He was once her only friend until she betrayed him, but now she's trying to get close again after learning that he's quite the successful tattoo artist. She hopes to rob him and get out quick, but those plans are also foiled when she gets caught. Camden has evidence that can get her sent to prison, at least if she doesn't use her conning skills to help him out of a sticky situation.I actually really like the author's writing style. I'm a big fan of more conversational narratives, and Sins & Needles has that. Ellie does occasionally address the reader directly, but it's nothing major, so I don't think readers who hate breaking the fourth wall will be too bothered by it. I like that it allows us to get into her head more, rather than just getting a play by play of events. However, I really didn't like the sections about Ellie's past. They're in third person and Ellie is always referred to as "the girl." The girl did this, the girl did that, the girl, the girl, the girl. I hate this. It does become clear later on why the author chose this method, but I still found it extremely annoying. I did like learning more about her past that wasn't included in On Every Street, but I just wish it had been written differently.
So, I was already pretty impressed with Ellie's sex life after reading all about her sexcipades with Javier. Now I'm just jealous. Sex & Needles has some of the hottest sex scenes I have read outside of erotica. No joke. I thought Javier was sexy, but Camden is much more my type. Loser, geeky, goth teen turned into tattooed, rock star, sex god? Yes, please! On the lawn, by the fire, in the bed, on the car! Everywhere! They could not keep their hands or mouths to themselves! I needed a cold shower after all that. And I have the very strong urge to get another tattoo.
The plot of Sins & Needles was fast paced and always kept me engaged. Ellie and Camden have both pissed off the wrong people, including each other, so it's no easy task keeping their lives. They're on the run for a good chunk of the book, and I was quite entertained by their schemes to "clean" their money and float under the radar. It's not until the end though, where things really pick up, and everyone's pasts come back to bite them. There was one plot point that really made me roll my eyes though. I couldn't believe Ellie was that stupid, but then again I do kind of believe that she had that much misplaced faith in this certain person. Without her blunder there wouldn't be a second book though.
Clearly, I really enjoyed Sins & Needles. It's exciting and sexy! The con artist, tattoo artist, drug lord plot line was completely engaging and unlike anything I had read before. That's not to say that it's totally unique, but it was my first experience with it (and it won't be the last!). Ellie is in a lot of trouble, and I'm eager to see how she gets out of this one!

This book begins 5 years after the break up of Javier and Eden/Ellie, (their story is On Every Street, the book before this). Returning to her roots, she resumes her real identity and runs into Camden, a guy from her past, one who was the bullied goth in school who is now, as Ellie describes him, 'sex on a stick'. Their friendship ended really badly all those years ago, but he seems to be over the things Ellie did to him. Or so it would seem...
He romances her, which is all pretty sexy and fun, and then...(I don't want to give anything away)...that big scene in his office completely threw me for a loop...But there were a lot of things in this book that did and, honestly, I was on the edge of my seat, nervous with anticipation, and for most of the book. More so because, after reading other reviews here, I knew Javier was eventually going to show up in this story and, frankly, I was pretty nervous about how all that was going to play out. Because I read Dirty Angels first (because I didn't know about this trilogy beforehand) I am sort of partial to Javier and I really wanted to be able to like him in this book...and I still did, even though he was rather scary...and made the story even more gritty and edgy.
All in all, this was another story with great writing, plot, dialogue, and super sexy characters.
I so wanted to slap Ellie. Always blaming everyone but herself. You learn that everyone that should have been there for her betrayed her. She's learned from them and turned into them. When seeking revenge on someone that hurt her as a child. She falls in love with the wrong person. Another person who broke her trust. So she goes to the one and only person she trust her only real family her uncle. He's doesn't want her. He's finally not hated by the community after her parents conned everyone and left her there for him to raise. When she run into a friend from her past. She can't believe he knows who she is but also wants to hangout and catch up. When you find out what she did to her only real friend Camden just evil. You hate her for being so cruel. I thought she was going to rip that poor kid now guy apart again. The two need each other soon they become a team. The past will always catch up with you. Ellie finally going to make things right. She giving herself up. To help Camden keep his family and run without looking back. End the end they both lose it looks like
Ellie Watt doesn't have a lot of alternatives at the moment. A life of scamming has lead her back to her hometown as a temporary escape until she can get some money and formulate her next plan. While she wasn't expecting to see Camden McQueen again, they are back to square one with a past that was better off being left behind in high school. While I loved the writing, I didn't get attached to Ellie or Camden. I actually liked Javier the most and he wasn't a main character, but he plays an important role that will likely increase in the next books. However, the story gets more interesting with Camden and Ellie because they know what the other person is like and similar to a game of chess, they make their moves with calculated strategy and it's anyone's guess as to what the final outcome will be because there are surprises tucked in. And like with any roll of the dice, Ellie has even an bleaker array of choices than what she came with and I'm intrigued with her relationship development with Camden because it's rather dicey, but there's still quite a bit of passion, too. I'm definitely curious to see what will happen next because the story has a lot of exciting possibilities ahead.
