Note that this is the original 2015 version.
The King needs an heir and that means finding some sort of woman to do the job.
"That's all it's about, ultimately basic, carnal compatibility in order to satisfy this need. For that reason, the pictures I request of those who wish to apply are explicit. The full prerequisites are attached to the correspondence. If you aren't comfortable with these demands, don't bother applying."
Ella applies, seeing straight through the bullshit; she goes as far as to derisively add a set of pictures fitting the requirements the letter demands
A picture of her "pussy" - a fat, indolent Persian - and of her in her nightwear - yoga pants and a hoodie.
In lieu of an introduction, her message reads
« Dear Daniel Franko Phillipe Del Luz,
I've applied to guarantee that I'm not summoned to your little orgy.
Fuck you. We aren't all stupid.
Ella. »
It was supposed to go through an automated system;
She didn't expect anyone to read it...
Let alone the King.
This novel is intended for a mature audience.
Cinderella, like every other story in the Not Quite the Fairy Tale series, is a standalone.
While you can read any of them separately, it's best to start with this one, to understand the world I will throw you into.

Ella, a veterinarian student, works eight hours a night as a bartender to pay for her studies. As if that wasn’t enough, she has to cook andclean for her abusive stepmother and stepsisters who stole her inheritance. Needless to say, she’s grumpy, and can’t wait until she can make enough money to afford a major lawsuit to get back her freedom and her rights. When handsome King Dane of Alenia, who has to find a
bride, summons all the girls of a certain age to apply (in a very unconventional way) for the privilege to be considered, Ella couldn’t care less, and does all she can to be rejected. But her lack of interest intrigues the King who becomes obsessed with her and uses all his power to attempt to seduce her.
Definitely not your typical fairy tale, this adult version of Cinderella is an extremely funny and very creative twist on the original. With much cursing, steamy sexual situations, and irreverent talk, Cinderella: A Modern Adult Fairy Tale isn’t for everyone. But I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the many comical situations imagined by May Sage who looks like she’s having a blast rewriting her own version of this children’s favorite.
The end may feel a bit rushed but readers who aren’t easily shocked and need a good laugh will certainly enjoy the ride.

Cinderella Not Quite the Fairy Tale Book 1 edition by May Sage Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really liked this twist on the Cinderella story. There was a lot of humor and I always appreciate that in a story I'm reading. Anyone who can make me chuckle or laugh gets a gold star in my book. There were some issues with errors and grammar, but nothing some re-editing couldn't fix. I liked the story a lot but it could really use a bit of a makeover. Some of the story would benefit from some fluffing and the ending could use some work. Still enjoyed reading it and would recommend others do so.
Ms. Sage has a wickedly twisted mind capable of turning a childhood fairytale into a steaming hot, sexy story with very modern leanings. I definitely prefer this version to what I read as a child. Cinderella is no naive ingenue, that got knocked out of her at a young age, and she is more than capable of turning the pressure up to explosive when she finally decides to go for what she wants. If you like a story that makes the bad girl in you sit up and take notice, then this is definitely a book to add to your keeper list. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I really liked the idea of this book and was excited to start reading it. I enjoyed the beginning and that's pretty much where it ended. I kept waiting for the book to figure itself out but it never did. I felt that the longer the book went on there were missing pieces. The story stopped making sense after a bit. I really didn't enjoy reading the rest of the book. Part of me wants to read it again and give it a second chance but the other part doesn't want to waste anymore time on it. I was really looking forward to this series but it just fell flat with the first book.
Ella Tremaine is going to be a vet. That is, if her stepmother doesn't get in the way like she's done for several years- holding Ella's trust fund hostage and basically making her a servant. Then an all call from the king causes a royal stir - he is looking for a wife and all interested parties should apply. Ella does, but only to make herself ineligible as she has no use for the forgetful man who dismissed her plea to get out from under her stepmother's evil rule. Her candid response gains her the king's attention and the chemistry is of the charts. There are still some obstacles keeping these two apart- not the least of which is that he doesn't recognize who she really is and what role he's played in her life.
This is a very entertaining spin on the original fairy tale, and am glad to have gotten the chance to read it.
The blurb intrigued me. The modern dating idea of "send nudes" mixed with an ancient fairy tale seemed like a fun premise.
Here's what I liked (1) Didn't think I could like Dane, but wound up rooting for him to get his HEA with Ella. Even though Ella struck me as petulant, I found myself liking her too. (2) Other reviewers commented about a need for editing, based on frequent errors, but I didn't find that. The book has clearly been edited since it was originally released.
Here's what I didn't like (1) Gaps in the world building. I still have lots of questions about how the fay blood works, how the kingdom is arranged, and whether the setting was modern or historic. (2) Transitions between scenes were frequently jarring. (3) No satisfying retribution against the step-family that did Ella wrong.
I'm a big Cinderella fan and any variation of the original is always welcome. This was a confusing short story. It threw out a variety of non-existent city names for no reason that just wasn't necessary. When the King and Cinderella finally do find their happy ending, there was no climax. It just feathered through the whole ending kind of leaving me thinking "did it just end?" I still really don't know what the Epilogue was even after reading it several times. Through the entire book, it had me wondering if this was the original because it seemed to be hacked up by a bad editor. Cute read for free. Not sure I'd recommend if I had to pay.
A fast-paced twist on the Cinderella concept, for adults.
Laced with sexy scenes this novella is the closest you will get to an erotica without it being classified as one.
The king will do what it takes to get an heir to the throne even if that means interviewing over one thousand eager participants. He has his work cut out for him even when only one is on his mind.
Ella is a rebel and she's just found her cause- to piss off the King.
Will Ella's fiery personality get too hot to handle or will the King cool her down?
Negatives
The pace is fast- too fast and adds to the feeling of the book being too short.
There are many places where more detail should have been put.
Recommended as a beach read.
